Starting in 2003 the internal electronics were changed, hardened 4th gear shaft, ratcheting sprags for input and third gear were added. Starting in mid year 2000 models, all 4T65-E models received an upgraded valve body. A number of final drive ratios are available, with many distinct models. It is able to handle vehicles up to 6500 lb (2948 kg) GVWR with up to 280 ft The 4T65-E included a larger 258 mm torque converter for some models and many other changes to improve reliability. The 4T65-E was introduced to replace the 4T60-E in 1997. 1994-1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera/ Oldsmobile Ciera V6 3100 L.The use of an incorrect transaxle will result in undesired operation, up to and including total non-functioning of the transaxle. Replacing a complete transaxle should only be done if a unit is verified to be the same as the unit it replaces, as in addition to the up to 12 variants of the final drive ratio, different applications and years can and will have incompatible electrical connectors. In the 4T60 family of transmissions, the combination of drive-chain sprocket ratios and the differential gear ratio together offer up to 12 different possible final drive ratios to allow the transmission family to cover various engine and vehicle applications. For example, a '95 Beretta features a 1650 rpm stall converter as opposed to '99 Century converter with a stall of 2095 rpm. The 4T60-E featured a 245mm torque converter with varying stall speed and gear ratios. ![]() The 4T60-E was phased out in favor of the 4T65 beginning in 1997. A heavy-duty 4T60-E HD was produced in 1996 for the supercharged GM 3800 engine and reused in mid 2005 to 2009 with an LS4 5.3 liter V8 in four different models the Buick Lacrosse Super, Chevrolet Impala SS, Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS, and Pontiac Grand Prix GXP. John could have been seriously hurt, and I am still shaking an hour later. In 1991 GM introduced the 4T60-E which was a 4T60 with electronic controls. My reason for this complaint is to make the manufacturer and parents aware of this danger and to see if something can be done to prevent this from happening to someone else. I checked my manual to see if my van has a window locking feature, but it does not appear to have that. John wasn't hurt, but he was very scared, and I was too. Fortunately I had the presence of mind to hit the switch to roll the window down. The window started to raise up and close with his head still in the window. My son was in the front passenger seat with his head out the window when he accidentally hit the power window switch. My 3 year old son and I were sitting in the van today with the windows rolled down waiting for preschool to start. When the van is turned off and the keys are out, the power windows and radio are still functional for several minutes or until the door is opened. I had a traumatic experience with our 2002 Chevrolet Venture Mini-van. ![]()
